Come Celebrate Earth Day in Herdon, Virginia

Planet Virginia Planned for Sunday, April 21, 2024

Washington (3-06-24) This Earth Day Planet Virginia ascends on Herndon, Virginia for a full day of fun including great music, informative speakers, and fabulous food. The event, formerly Fairfax Veg Fest, brings to light the benefits of a sustainable lifestyle. More than 80 local businesses will be offering delicious food, desserts, and ice cream as well as health-related and green products both good for humans and for the Earth. Planet Virginia is anticipating attendance to exceed 5,000 this year.

“Expansion of the ‘Planet’ concept was inevitable,” said Eric Lindstrom, Executive Director of Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM), the Washington, DC-based organization presenting the events. “With back-to-back successes hosting Planet Bethesda, Planet Virginia made logical sense as we are all looking for creative ways to ease the climate crisis.”

Two additional groups are co-piloting the event: Climate Diet (Bethesda, MD) and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (Washington, D.C.).

  • The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine will be on hand to highlight the health benefits of a plant-based diet and links between diet and disease.
  • FARM and GreenFare will explain the devastating impact livestock has on the environment and how ranching contributes to pollution
  • Climate Diet, in addition to providing quizzes with prizes on environmental issues, will present comments on the link between diet and the climate

Speakers include:

  • Dr. T. Colin Campbell, co-author of The China Study
  • Lisa DeCrescente, Planet Series Events Director
  • Dr. Neil Barnard, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine
  • Gene Baur, Activist, Author and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary
  • Jane DeMarines, founder of Sustainable Earth Eating and the Climate Diet Project
  • Gwyn Whittaker, GreenFare Organic Cafe founder and healthy-lifestyle advocate
  • Eric C Lindstrom, Author and FARM Executive Director is emceeing.

“As Earth approaches an environmental precipice, it is incumbent upon us to create events and activities that enlighten as well as entertain. To that end, the expansion of the Planet Series spreads awareness, fosters global collaboration, and encourages individuals and communities to take action for the well-being of the planet,” said Lisa DeCrescente. DeCrescente added, “A plant-based diet puts far less stress on your body and the planet.”

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with FARM on the transition of the Fairfax Veg Fest to Planet Virginia and the series of Planet events in the Delaware and DC Metro area. With the continued focus on the health, environment, and compassionate aspects of a whole food, plant-based diet, I am proud to join forces to ensure the success of this event,” said Fairfax Veg Fest producer, Gwyn Whittaker.

The Planet series began with Planet Bethesda which quickly became a Montgomery County favorite. This year the Planet Series has expanded to include northern Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The tour serves to educate the public on ways to ease the climate crisis. Be kind to the Earth and be kind to yourself this Earth Day and plan to attend Planet Virginia.
