Akil Taher

Akil Taher, MD, is a practicing physician in Gadsden, Alabama. Dr. Taher is an eternal optimist, explorer, and adventurer, who in 2010, at the age of sixty-one, dramatically altered the conventional script adopted by most bypass surgery patients by undertaking a mountaineering trek to Mount Kailash in Tibet. This was a year after his open-heart surgery. Over the last decade, he has overcome acute and chronic medical ailments by transforming his mind, body, and spirit through the adoption of a plant-based diet, practice of yoga and meditation, regular exercise, and developing a positive and purpose-driven mindset.

ART RECEPTION at GALLERY 50 featuring Aysha Akhtar

Aysha Akhtar

Aysha Akhtar is an emerging artist, located in Maryland, and a Pakistani-American. Nature inspires her with its abundance of exquisite shapes, forms, and colors. Given the immense problem of climate change and destruction of nature, her paintings have focused on the natural world around us, through explorations in abstract paintings or a merging with representational. But rather than emphasize the destruction of nature, her art aims to celebrate nature. Her paintings have been exhibited in multiple group exhibitions, including the Circle Gallery, District Arts Gallery, and Silvermine Galleries. She had a solo exhibition in 2020 at the d’Art Center in Virginia and has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Transverse Gallery for Contemporary Art in New York. She is a Guild member of the Silvermine Galleries and a member of the Maryland Federation of Arts.
